About the Program
We will run 4 intensive psychotherapy groups Sundays in cycles on a continual basis starting Sunday December 10th, 2017. Levels 1-3 will be tailored to clients wishing to gain control over substances. Level 4 will be tailored to those who have been in recovery having achieved abstinence or a demonstrated stable pattern of use for 6 months or more. Tea and coffee will be served 10 minutes in advance of the group starting. All groups will take place at my office 600 Sherbourne Street, Suite 501 Toronto, Ontario.
Group rate is $60 per 1½ hour group session and just like my regular sessions is covered by group insurance benefits. All 9 sessions for each assigned level that’s enrolled in must be prepaid.
Enrollment Please contact Demian’s Administrative Assistant Shauna Elliott and book a free 15 minute phone assessment with Demian Brown to determine which group is most appropriate and to secure a spot since seats are limited! Please call 416-648-0668 or email email@example.com.

GROUP 1 (5-8 members)
Level One is scheduled weekly on Sunday from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Co-facilitated group discussions will be geared toward guiding clients through their ambivalence about making changes to their use of a substance(s).
Clients will primarily be encouraged by Therapists to use their identified strengths to share openly with other clients both their successes and struggles with changing patterns of use of a substance(s) while being encouraged to offer and receive support from fellow group members with similar struggles/successes. The group will help clients to examine the degree of control they have over substances by examining the costs and benefits of past, present and future use and making preliminary adjustments in the pattern of use.
The group will aim to help clients who wonder if they have a dependency to determine if they do or not and to think about first steps to make changes. Once a decision is made to reduce or stop using a substance (tobacco, alcohol, street drugs & prescription drugs) clients will be then eligible for enrollment in Group 2 where clients will be guided to make changes to reduce or stop using any substance that they find they are locked into a relationship with.
GROUP 2 (5-8 members)
Level Two is scheduled weekly on Sunday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am
Group discussions will be based on set weekly themes geared toward helping clients to further develop and refine relapse prevention strategies acquired in level one until abstinence or a stable reduced pattern of use is achieved before moving to level Three.
Clients will primarily be encouraged by Therapists, to use their identified strengths and to share openly with other clients their successes and challenges as they have experienced them while changing their pattern of use. Therapists will encourage clients to both offer support and to receive support from fellow group members sharing in similar struggles and successes with the intent of making further adaptive changes. The group will help clients to examine the degree of control they have over substances by assessing the costs and benefits of past, present and future use.
The group will aim to help clients who admit to having a dependency (tobacco, alcohol, street drugs & prescription drugs) to determine first steps and beyond to make necessary changes to reduce or eliminate their use. Once clients have decided to either reduce how much they use (and can demonstrate some self-control) or if a decision is made to stop using the substance(s) all together (if reducing is too difficult and using is unlikely to stop) then Clients will be eligible for enrollment in Group 2 where clients will be guided to make changes to reduce or stop using any substance that they have discovered they are locked into a relationship with.
GROUP 3 (5-8 members)
Level Three is scheduled weekly in the same location each Sunday from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm Group 3 will be geared toward guiding clients through resolving issues that have arisen from using and that could compromise recovery while also addressing underlying issues that contributed to pre-treatment substance misuse thereby helping clients to maintain a reduced level of use or abstinence.
Clients will primarily be encouraged by Therapists to use their identified strengths to share openly with other clients by offering support to and receiving support from fellow group members with similar struggles. The group will help clients to refine relapse prevention strategies to increase stability in their lives while preventing actual and anticipated deviations from stable patterns of use or relapses from abstinence.
The group will aim to help clients who have been trying to follow a relapse prevention plan to further evaluate and fortify the plan by both minimizing slips and learning to avoid them (tobacco, alcohol, street drugs & prescription drugs). Once six months have elapsed (while enrolled or not) without slips/relapses clients will be eligible for Group Level 4 to address the remaining issues caused by their earlier patterns of use as well as to try to understand and address the underlying causes of earlier mostly pre-treatment substance misuse.
Note: An itinerary will be developed at each group session for the following week as part of a needs assessment as this is a pilot program. The overall programs weekly itinerary will be developed for the program in the future this way. Come and help set the agenda! Group 4 will be developed based on needs assessment and enrollment date will be announced shortly. Group program structure is open and continuous in enrollment.
