About the Program

Everyone can benefit from counselling and therapy, and personal growth and development counselling is especially relevant to all people. The therapeutic relationship offers you objective, listening support and guidance. You can think of it as “me time” but healing, self-awareness, and growth actually benefit your loved ones and society at large as well.
We have all experience traumas, whether a painful break up or divorce, being downsized at work, or watching helplessly as a loved one succumbs to cancer. Therapy is often about helping people come to terms with trauma. But current emergencies or old resolved traumas don’t have to take centre stage. Focusing on personal growth and development are important pursuits in therapy.
Just like gardening, drawing, or a new board game, much about our lives is learned. We don’t have a very good built in instruction manual. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses integral to our personality- these strengths can be developed further with focus and intent, and our weaknesses can be improved or even resolved with concentration and insight.

of self-improvement is unrealistic- after all, how can a person retain their new image if they haven’t learned the cosmetic techniques or fitness routines or financial management skills they need to retain the “new me.” Personal growth and development therapy works from the premise that you don’t need a radical change to become someone else- rather, you want to become yourself. You want to realize your full potential. This is a process and journey of learned skills and earned insights, not a quick fix from the therapist like a last minute hair salon appointment. I will help you as you assess honestly what traits are worth growing as well as areas like bad habits that need to be broken, shortcomings that need to be addressed, how to mend fences or when to let go, making amends or finding forgiveness to liberate yourself from burdens of guilt or grief, and how to achieve confidence. Setting objectives and other cognitive behavioural therapy techniques are important.

Personal growth and development counselling might involve career development, direction or change; it might involve goal setting and discerning priorities- essentially time management with the emotions in mind; working toward balance; building and enriching relationships; improving family dynamics; self-discovery; overcoming guilt; managing bad habits; setting boundaries; and more.
By discovering our selves, our families and family of origin, by decoding our past and present experiences, we become emotionally healthier. This leads to a more satisfying life.
